It really doesn’t have to be so hard! Technological advances have made online job searching a social norm. Read on for some tips on how to make the whole process a bit easier.

1. Use The Advanced Search Feature. Most job search engines will give you the option to do an advanced search. You want to take advantage of this in order to narrow down the best jobs for you. There are categories like keywords, travel distance, salary, job category and the age of the job post. You can even choose to negate staffing agencies if you prefer. By getting as detailed as you can in an advanced search, you’re increasing the chances of starting out with some great job specifications.

2. Utilize Keywords. Once you are on the advanced search page, you can really define your keywords. You will have the ability to choose exact phrases, have the keyword connected to job titles and search for any or all matching words. Take a moment to think about several words that describe your industry or your ability. This might be something you may need to tweak over time. For example, if you are looking for a job in the financial field, you may use “financial manager” as keywords. However, if you chose to search with any of those words, it may yield listings for “landscape manager.”

3. Post Your Resume. If the job search engine gives you the option to post your resume, take advantage of that. Your resume will then be available for thousands of potential employers to view. Let the site do the work for you and get your name out there.

4. Sign Up For E-Mail Alerts. This is a handy feature available on most job search engines. You will have the option to receive daily or weekly updates of job postings matching your criteria. Just check your e-mail, and weed through the options. Many sites also give you the option to save the search as an RSS feed.

5. Don’t Forget The Important Players. While it benefits to sign up with sites such as Indeed and Monster, there are other options as well. It’s always a good idea to check your local paper online and search their employment section. Don’t limit yourself-sign on with as many sites as you want!

6. Get Social. The world of social media has opened up possibilities for us in all aspects of our lives. Don’t forget to utilize sites such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. You may already have some connections with friends and family that will lead to that next job. You never know!

7. Let Someone Else Do The Work. If you’re just too busy with other commitments, but you know you have to get started with the job search process, hire a virtual assistant to do it for you. There are virtual assistants who have experience in this field. It will free up your time and get you results much quicker.

  1. New job, more money? I’m in………actually I like my job but can always use more money.

I’m going to forward this to my son; he’s a recent college grad hitting the streets. Anything that can help him in the process is good. Speaking of more money, I just need to get him off the payroll……….:)

    Good to see you today.

    1. Hey Bill!
Couldn’t we all use more money? Ha ha! Yes, feel free to share this post. I hope it helps your son.

They move out, but they still seem to suck cash out of the wallet for quite some time, don’t they? 🙂
      Thanks for the visit!
